The Choir The Choir

One of the unique features of a Cathedral is the beautiful choral music and at Chelmsford Cathedral our choirs are at the heart of this tradition.

The Cathedral Choir

The Cathedral is served by a traditional choir of boys and adults who sing regularly at choral services from week to week. The choristers attend a number of local schools and range in age from 7 to 15. During term time, they come to the Cathedral for practices and services four days a week as well as singing at the festivals of Christmas and Easter. They also take part in many of the City’s commemorations and celebrations including Remembrance Sunday and the Christmas lights switch on.

The adults include school-age and post-school choral scholars, along with more experienced singers, and sing at services from Thursday to Sunday, and at a variety of events through the year including concerts, dinners, and informal gatherings.

The Girls Choir

The Girls’ Choir

The Cathedral Girls' Choir sings a regular pattern of choral services both on their own and with the adults, including weekday Evensongs as well as weekend services, concerts and festivals. The girl choristers are from years 6 to 13 and are directed by Hilary Punnett.

The girl choristers attend a range of local schools and rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays before and after school. Our girl choristers all enjoy free voice lessons, as well as the opportunity to take part in social events and tours. Auditions and trial days are available throughout the year.
