Woman Composer Sunday 2026

This Sunday, 8 March, we are delighted to announce our participation in Woman Composer Sunday 2026.

This event, timed with International Women's Day, is dedicated to recognising and promoting the outstanding contributions of female composers within cathedral and church services and concerts worldwide.

Throughout the day, our worship services within the Cathedral will showcase the music of renowned composers such as Amy Beach, Kerensa Briggs, Jeanne Demessieux, Imogen Holst and Sarah MacDonald.

Launched in 2021 by the Royal College of Organists (RCO) and the Society of Women Organists (SWO), Woman Composer Sunday encourages organists and musicians to include works by female composers in their programmes and to share recordings online, helping to elevate their profile and broaden their reach.

Key aspects of the initiative include:

  • To spotlight, celebrate, and promote organ and choral music composed by women, ensuring their inclusion in church services and concert repertoires.
  • Musicians and organists are invited to perform these compositions and share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #SWORCOWomanComposerSunday.

Join us on 8 March to celebrate Woman Composer Sunday at any of our services throughout the day.
