Girl Choristers sing at Canterbury

Our Chelmsford Cathedral girl choristers enjoyed a fantastic outing to Canterbury Cathedral to sing a joint evensong with their counterparts there on Sunday, March 13th.

Although we arrived in the drizzle, we didn’t let it dampen our spirits as we started with a little walk around the cathedral and its amazing close, where we saw their cloisters, and many amazing old buildings!

We then enjoyed a lovely lunch at Prezzo all together, after which we were taken on a fantastic and informative tour of the Cathedral, led by their Precentor, Max Kramer. He finished our tour in the East end of the Cathedral, where Bahram Dehqani-Tafti, martyr of the church in Iran, and brother to our Bishop of Chelmsford, Guli Frances-Dehqani, is remembered – a moving connection between our two cathedrals.

After our tour, we were warmly welcomed by the Canterbury Cathedral girl choristers for tea, where we got to know each other a bit better and hopefully made some new friends in a different choir. We then joined forces for a rehearsal and evensong. The joint choirs blended superbly and filled the amazing space with sound! We were warmly welcomed by all the staff and congregation there, and the girls were wonderful ambassadors for Chelmsford Cathedral – singing beautifully and being their usual professional and wonderful selves!
