Director of Music honoured with RSCM Nicholson Award

Congratulations to our Director of Music Emma Gibbins on being awarded The Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) Nicholson award.

Each year, the RSCM confers a number of honorary awards and the Nicholson award is given for significant work as a volunteer officer or member of staff within the RSCM, and/or significant contribution to church music at a local RSCM area level. Emma was recognised for her work during her time as Area Team Leader of RSCM South-East Wales where she was held in high regard by all members of the Area Team and collaborated effectively with the Regional Manager, Diocesan structures, local churches and choirs. She was also commended for her use of RSCM resources in the training of her choristers and has been engaged as an RSCM tutor on young Persons’ Choral Courses.

The RSCM enables the flourishing of church music by encouraging and resourcing churches, musicians and church communities of all kinds to ensure they have access to relevant support, training and education resources to sustain them, with the aim of inspiring the church musicians of the future. Across the UK and worldwide, the RSCM’s network of thousands of affiliated churches (including Chelmsford Cathedral, schools, individuals, supporters and volunteers help them achieve the vision of bringing people closer to God through music.

Emma is looking forward to continuing her work with the Diocese, local churches and choirs here in Chelmsford, and using skills and knowledge train the new cohort of Chelmsford Cathedral choristers!
