We're delighted to welcome Major General Tim Cross CBE retired army officer and defence commentator. He'll be talking about Religion, a Cause of War or a Means of Peace.
A recent survey found that half the UK population think religion does more harm than good, with many respondents declaring that most wars are started by religion, with governments using religion for their own ends, including keeping people (especially women) in their place, or inciting them to violence and war by abusing it. As a result, many today are indifferent to, or sceptical if not critical of religious belief. Tim will speak on the issue of whether religion is a cause of war or a means of peace – not from an academic perspective, but from a practical military one as a result of his time in the Army.
