Celebrate Christmas at Chelmsford Cathedral

Chelmsford Cathedral warmly invites you to celebrate the joy and wonder of the Christmas season with us. Whether you're moved by traditional choral music or simply love singing your favorite carols, come and experience a very special Cathedral Christmas with us.

You can start the Christmas season on Sunday 1st December at 6pm at the Advent Procession This beautiful, meditative service moves us from the darkness into the light with readings and music sung by the Cathedral Choir. The service will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies provided by the Friends of Chelmsford Cathedral.

For those of you who enjoy our Lunchtime Concert, why not come along to Midday Carols on Fridays 13th and 20th December. You'll get to sing your favourite carols and listen to one of the Cathedral Choir’s Sopranos sing a number of sacred and secular festive favourites, accompanied on the organ by the Director of Music who will also play some seasonal, fun organ pieces.

Our ever popular Carols by Candlelight return on Sunday 15th December at 6pm and Friday 20th December at 7pm. These candlelit services are a wonderful opportunity to sing your favourite Christmas carols by the light of our Christmas tree in the beautiful surroundings of the Cathedral.

And the in the highlight of the Cathedral’s Christmas celebrations, join us on Saturday 21st, sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd December at 6.30pm for a Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. This traditional service consists of special readings, music sung by the Cathedral Choir and well-loved Christmas carols for everyone to sing together in a glorious celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.

All of our services are free to attend. Seats are allocated on a first come, first served basis so please do arrive in good time. If you have any questions about Christmas at Chelmsford Cathedral, please email hello@chelmsfordcathedral.org.uk

We hope you will celebrate with us as we reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and share the joy of this season.
