Our series of Keene Lectures during Lent are titled Wrestling with God.
This series accompanies different speakers and different expressions of faith, doubt, and devotion, as ‘resurrection journeys’ that travel through rough, disturbing or difficult terrain. In dialogue with the poet Michael Symmons-Roberts’ recent book Quartet for the End of Time (Penguin, 2025), [with Messiaen scholar Christopher Dingle], and with Messaien’s own music of blazing faith and devotion, Sam Bristow explores Messiaen’s sound world and sensibility, culminating in a performance of organ work by Messiaen.
