Times of Sunday morning service to change from 1st October 2023
A message from the interim Dean, the Very Revd Paul Kennington.
"After Covid the Cathedral reduced the number of services on a Sunday morning from three to two: an 8am Book of Common Prayer service of Holy Communion and a 10.30am Cathedral Eucharist with the choir.
After consultation with the congregation we have decided to have three services again but with a number of differences. The 8am Book of Common Prayer Holy Communion will remain the same. There will then be a 9.30am Congregational Eucharist which will be a short service without the Cathedral Choir. The new Cathedral Young Singers will sing an anthem during Communion. Junior Church will be starting a little earlier at 9am in the Learning Centre or garden with refreshments and at 10am the families will all make their way to the Cathedral to join us. In order to minimise disruption, they will enter by the north door next to the kitchen and seating will be available for them near to this point of entry. This will enable families to be part of our regular worship, to take communion or have a blessing and to have coffee together afterwards. In addition to all of this, there will be a creche in St Cedd’s Chapel for the under 3s, enabling parents of babies and toddlers to stay in church. The last Sunday of the month will continue to be an All-Age Eucharist.
At 11.15am there will be a Choral Eucharist at which the Cathedral Choir will sing a full Mass setting. This will be more formal in style and will be an opportunity to invite guest preachers.
Evensong will continue at 3.30pm for the time being, although we may decide to change that time as we continue to experiment with the new morning times."
