Do join us on Tuesday 26th January at 7.30pm as we livestream a short service to elect the new Bishop of Chelmsford into the College of Canons.
In an Act dating back to 1534, although the Crown nominates a new Bishop, s/he can only begin their role once the Diocese elects or consents to the appointment. In electing the person nominated, the College of Canons expresses the consent of the Diocese to the outcome of the process of discernment which took place over several months last year.
All this may sound very formal but is marks the start of a whole series of events which will allow Bishop Guli to begin her ministry in the Diocese. And in due course, we will be able to celebrate her appointment more informally, and Covid restrictions permitting, welcome her in person. The service and election (taking place via zoom) will be livestreamed on the Cathedral's Facebook page @chelmsfordcathedral.
