Matthew Nisbet - Lunchtime Lute Recital

Mon 16 June 2025 Time: 12:00pm - 12:45pm

Our Tudor series continues with a lunchtime recital by musician Matthew Nisbet playing the lute, a popular instrument of the time. Matthew also plays the baroque guitar and theorbo and his specialism in string instruments works beautifully with his repertoire of Renaissance music, making him a fitting performer for our Tudor-themed Lunchtime Concert.

After playing the lute and theorbo at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Matthew specialised in early music at Manchester University before studying with lutenist Nigel North at Indiana University. Since then, he has worked with period-instrument groups including The King’s Consort, Ex Cathedra, His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts, The Dunedin Consort and I Fagiolini. He also joins some of Britain’s finest lute players as a member of Chordophony, a lute quartet directed by Lynda Sayce.

Tickets are £8 and available from Eventbrite here or on the door.
