Chelmsford Cathedral Chelmsford Cathedral

Friends of Chelmsford Cathedral

The organisation of the Friends of Chelmsford Cathedral was founded in 1939 and exist today to assist in caring for the Cathedral, safeguarding it for future generations.

Members of the Friends are committed to;

  • Praying for the Ministry and Mission of the Cathedral
  • Maintaining the Cathedral as a place of beauty and a welcoming place for members of   the   congregation, people in the Diocese, visitors, and City residents.
  • Over the years, the Friends have financed many major projects, for example, the restoration of the Glory Tapestry that can be seen at the east end of the Cathedral.

The Friends meet termly and hold a Winter Festival in January and an Autumn Festival in September (the AGM) in the Cathedral, each with a speaker and refreshments and concluding with Choral Evensong.

They also arrange social events and outings throughout the year which include mulled wine and mince pies after the Advent Procession on Advent Sunday, strawberry teas, coffee mornings and visits to other churches and cathedrals.
