Welcome to Chelmsford Cathedral website. In the power of the Holy Spirit, we seek to be a transforming presence, welcoming and serving in the name of Jesus Christ.
Chelmsford Cathedral surprises people. On first sight it looks a surprisingly modest parish church. "Surely this isn't the Cathedral" people often say or think. But when they step inside they are often amazed by its sense of space, light and colour.
It lets you know through its rhythm of services day by day and Sunday by Sunday, that worship matters and is at the heart of what we do; listen to our choirs and you'll hear how much we value Christianity as a 'singing faith' (John Rutter). Look at our activities and you will see that we take education and mission seriously, as we engage with Chelmsford, Essex and East London in numerous ways. Our current priorities are:
This church has been a parish church for centuries and continues to be so, and we are proud of our parish roots. We became a cathedral in 1914. Our current Bishop is John Gladwin who was installed here in 2003. Our Diocesan website is http://www.chelmsford.anglican.org I hope you enjoy exploring this website, and hope that you will visit us and share in our worship at this intimate and magnificent cathedral.
