An Evening with the King's Singers

The King's Singers, one of the most sought-after and critically acclaimed vocal groups in the world, will be performing at Chelmsford Cathedral on Friday, October 15 at 7.30pm. The six man ensemble, renowned for their interpretation and witty arrangements, will be giving a programme which will include works from Thomas Tallis to Gilbert and Sullivan and their own much-loved close harmony repertoire.

The King's Singers travel worldwide giving around 125 concerts each year. During 2010 their packed schedule has included coast to coast performances across the USA, the Far East (Japan, China and Taiwan) and throughout Europe. Following their Chelmsford engagement, the King's Singers will visit Cambridge and the Cadogan Hall, London, before resuming their World tour taking in Sweden, Italy and Germany before returning to the US in December.

Included in the six man team is Chelmsford born, Timothy Wayne-Wright. Timothy began his singing career as a boy chorister at the Cathedral and was a pupil at KEGS before achieving his music degree at the University of London. Prior to joining the King's Singers, Timothy had held the prestigious position of Lay Clerk at St. George's Chapel, Windsor. Timothy says that the joining the King's Singers 'is the most musically exciting time of my life' and he is thrilled by the sheer breadth that the group embodies.

Director of Music at Chelmsford Cathedral, Peter Nardone commented "We are proud that our Choral Foundation Concert Series is promoting 'An Evening with The King's Singers', not least because one of Chelmsford Cathedral Choir's star's, Timothy Wayne-Wright, recently joined the group and is being welcomed back to the place where he learned his trade. We are very excited to have attracted the group back to Chelmsford. They produce one of the most amazing sounds you are likely to hear from six professional singers. We can look forward to a very varied section from Byrd to Gilbert and Sullivan from the group that won last year's Grammy Award for Best Classical Crossover Album.

More than that it is an evening where the people of Chelmsford have once again the opportunity to say hello to their old Friends, The King's Singers, who have appeared a number of times in the Chelmsford Cathedral Festival over the years. It's truly an evening for Friends!"

Tickets will be available from Chelmsford Civic Theatre Box Office from 1 August priced: £25, £20, £16.
