St. Cedd's Cross

.Cedd was a celtic missionary who brought Christianity to the people of Essex when he landed at Bradwell in AD653. The Celtic Cross is made of two Christian symbols: the cross, which symbolises the Christian faith because Jesus died on a cross; and a circle, the symbol of never ending life - for a circle has no end. Celtic Christians may have used the circle and cross together to show they believed that Jesus rose from the dead and came to life again. Because St Cedd is one of the Cathedral's patron saints, we have adopted his celtic cross as our symbol.
