HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN EXPERIENCE THE CATHEDRAL

Hundreds of school children are now involved regularly at Chelmsford Cathedral as a result of Education visits by schools and from the Chorister Outreach Programme.

On Saturday (March 6) five schools participated in "Sing Up" under the auspices of the Choir Schools Assocaition when parents had the opportunity to hear their children enjoy singing . The programme is part of the Government funded nationwide National Singing Programme, "Sing Up. The following school choirs participated, Great Leighs Primary; St Mary's CE Primary; The Bishops' CE and RC Primary; Woodville Primary and Writtle Junior School. The director is Simon Warne.

During this week the Cathedral authorities welcome pupils for Education visits from Little Parndon Primary, Harlow; St Mary's CE Primary at Woodham Ferrers and the Cathedral School, Victoria Road. The Education Officer, Mrs Bobby Harrington who leads a team of volunteers, reports that 1,400 children attended such visits to the Cathedral in the past year. In addition, the Cathedral Choir consists of boys from a number of schools, likewise girls who sing in the Cathedral Consort.

Workshops are held from time to time and are being planned to inform children about the events of Holy Week leading up to Easter Day. "Maltesa", a donkey from Little Baddow, symbolising the entry by Christ on an animal into Jerusalem, will lead a procession of worshippers including many children and their families round the Cathedral on Palm Sunday (March 21)at 10.30am.

IN CONCERT

On Friday, March 12, pupils from St Cedd's School entertain "promenaders" at the weekly lunchtime concert at 12.30. Refreshments are served from 12 noon.
