CATHEDRAL FRIENDS CELEBRATE WINTER

The Friends of Chelmsford Cathedral meet on Saturday (Jan 23) for their Winter Festival at 3pm with a talk followed by Afternoon tea in the Chapter House. Their speaker in the Cathedral is Alison Woollard, director of the "The Nativity", an adaptation of Medieval Miracle Plays performed in the Cathedral last October.

The Friends, formed 70 years ago, provide support for the Cathedral and its various projects and works of art. Last year the Friends gave more than £5,000 towards funds. Membership is open to all interested in the Cathedral and its community. The cost of tea on Saturday is a suggested donation of £2.

BRENTWOOD BIG BAND

The big band from Brentwood School take over the Cathedral on Friday (Jan 22) at the lunch time concert with a varied programme of popular music. The concert is at 12.30 with refreshments served from 12 noon. Admission is free.

SUPPORT FOR 'QUAKE VICTIMS

"Promenade goers" at last week's lunch time concert donated the sum of £705. 96p, towards the earthquake disaster relief agencies in Haiti. Collections were held for the appeal work of Christian Aid after each of the four Cathedral services last Sunday.

NEW APPOITMENT

The Bishop's Chaplain, the Revd Chris Newlands, also an honorary chaplain at the Cathedral, has been appointed Priest in charge of the Priory and Parish Church of St Mary, Lancaster. Mr Newlands was formerly Vicar of Shrub End, Colchester.

FOR ST VALENTINE'S DAY …

A special service for married couples (and families) will be held at the Cathedral on Sun, Feb 14 to celebrate Christian marriage at 3pm. Tea follows. All are welcome.
