ICONS FOR CHELMSFORD CATHEDRAL
Four giant icons designed and painted by three nuns (who remain anonymous) at their Orthodox community have been "resting" in St Cedd's Chapel in Chelmsford Cathedral throughout Christmas waiting to be elevated into the clerestory windows on the north side of the chancel later this month.
The icons - 70" by 52" depict Christ himself and the three patron saints of the cathedral - Mary, St Peter and St Cedd, the Essex saint who brought the Christian faith to East Anglia in 654AD. The icons will be finished in situ and will be dedicated at later date. The difficult task of siting them in the window frame work will be aided by a builder's cherry picker. The nuns have agreed to go "up aloft" to finish their task between Jan 18 to 29. The costs entailed will be met from special funds.

The event held at the home of John and Yvonne Spence in Chelmer Village was the first of its kind to support the work of Christian teams who support those "in difficulty" in the town centre on Friday and Saturdays.
