THOUSANDS CELEBRATE AT THE CATHEDRAL
Thousands of Essex folk celebrated Christmas at \services in Chelmsford Cathedral over the past three weeks when 22 carol services and many other special services took place. Twelve hundred attended the double performance of the traditional Nine Lessons and Carols on Dec 23rd and 24th, and another 700 - mostly young families -were present at the annual Crib Service and Christingle on Christmas Eve.
The clergy and cathedral authorities were pleased with the turnout especially in view of the icy weather: though numbers were down slightly at Midnight mass at 11.30pm. The Cathedral Choir was conducted by Peter Nardone and services were led by the Dean, the Very Revd Peter Judd and other clergy.
The Cathedral also launched its programme for the New Year with a Coffee Morning on Saturday in the Chapter House (10am to 12 noon) and worshippers at the 9.30 and 11.15 Eucharists on Sunday (Jan 3) will have the opportunity to buy Fair Trade items between services in the Chapter House at 10.30 to 11.15am.
The Feast of the Epiphany (visit to the Christ child by the wise men) will be celebrated on Wed, Jan 6th at 8.15 and 12.35 with Holy Communion, and an evening Eucharist will be held at 7.45pm when a presentation will be made to the Vice-dean, the Revd Canon Walter King and his wife, Pamela who are retiring. All are welcome.
