CATHEDRAL BEGINS CAROLS "MARATHON"

Chelmsford Cathedral begins the Christmas season with Carols for animals at the Willow Tree service on Sunday (Dec 6) at 2pm, and continues with 22 carol services - mostly with schools - to the Christmas Nine Lessons and Carols on Wednesday, Dec 23rd at 6pm. The carol services include the Essex Fire and Rescue carols on Thurs, Dec 10th (7.15pm) and the Carols for the Deaf on Fri, Dec 11th at 10.30am.

All the carol services staged in the Cathedral are open to the public, but because of numbers it is not possible to include visitors at the major school services. A complete list is in the south porch. More details from the Cathedral Office on 01245 294489.

A service card with information about Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is available.

CATHEDRAL MARKET AND OPEN DAY

The annual Christmas Market at the Cathedral is on Saturday (Dec 5) at 10.30am to 2.30pm. All are welcome. Lunches and other refreshments available.

PROCESSION AND CAROLS FOR ADVENT

The Procession for Advent with readings and carols took place last night (Sun, Nov 29) when the Cathedral Choir and the Consort (Girls Choir) sung music for Advent. The service was conducted by the Dean, the Very Revd Peter Judd.

Afterwards, the congregation held a short reception to say Farewell to the Cathedral Administrator, Captain David Fifield and his wife Barbara as they leave Chelmsford. The new Administrator, Philip Tarris, from Thaxted, takes over today.

CHRISTMAS READINGS AND MUSIC

The final lunchtime concert for the autumn season takes place on Friday (Dec 4) at the Cathedral when a programme of music and readings for Advent leading to Christmas. All are welcome; 12.30. Refreshments served as usual from 12 noon.

INTER FAITH LECTURES

The final of three public lectures by Dr Nick Adams, Acting director of the Cambridge Inter Faith Project took place on Wednesday, Nov 25. Scripts are available and discs from the Cathedral Office on 01245 294489 (Rosy Baxter).
