CATHEDRAL SETS SCENE FOR CHRISTMAS
Chelmsford Cathedral will be the town focus of Christmas events and services with a Christmas Market and Open Day on Saturday, Dec 5 in the cathedral itself from 10.30am to 2.30pm.There will be a variety of stalls and refreshments served throughout; an art collection; and home made produce will be on sale.
Musical interludes will be offered and lunches in the north transept. The organisers, the Cathedral Social Committee have invited a number of visiting craft stalls as well. All are welcome. Admission free.
CAROLS FOR ADVENT
On the spiritual side, the Cathedral begins with special services for Advent on Sunday (Nov 29). The traditional 8am service of Holy Communion is followed by the Parish Communion at 9.30 and then Choral Eucharist at 11.15 sing by the Cathedral Choir with Carols for Advent in place of Evensong at 6pm. ( No tickets required.)
The speaker at the 11.15 is the Revd Canon Stephen Lake, Sub-dean of St Alban's Abbey preaching on the theme, "The Four Last Things" - Heaven.
NEW CHORISTERS WELCOMED
Six new choristers were welcomed at the 11.15 Choral Eucharist on Sunday (Nov 22) and formally admitted to the Choir by the Dean, the Very Revd Peter Judd and the Director of Music, Peter Nardone. .The address was given by the Precentor, the Revd Canon Simon Pothen. The Canon Theologian, the Revd Andrew Knowles gave the sermon at last night's service of Evensong.
CHOIRS IN FOCUS
The annual meeting of the Chelmsford Cathedral Choirs' Association was held last Sunday (Nov 15) when Peter Nardone, Director of Music, was re-elected chairman; Paula Hiett, as secretary and Philippa Penkett as membership secretary.
MUSIC AT LUNCH TIME
The artists this week at the Friday lunch time concert (Nov 27) are John Kingham, oboe and Adrian Ure, piano at 12.30. Refreshments are served from 12. All welcome.
