ACCENT ON ECUMENICAL STUDY
The two cathedrals in Essex - Chelmsford and Brentwood join together on Saturday Nov 14 for an ecumenical study afternoon on the place of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Christian life. The RC Bishop of Brentwood, the Right Revd Thomas McMahon will preside jointly with the Dean of Chelmsford Cathedral, the Very Revd Peter Judd. The two Cathedral congregations already work together in a unique covenant.
The place of Mary is thought by some scholars to be a focus of unity between the churches. The event in the Chapter House, Chelmsford from 2pm to 5pm, is open to all. Afterwards the Cathedral Choir will sing Vespers with hymns at 5.15pm.
ACCENT ON REMEMBRANCE
The men of the Chelmsford Cathedral Choir and the Consort ( Girls Choir) joined members of the Chelmsford Singers in a performance of the Faure Requiem on Sunday (Nov 8) as part of the Remembrance events of the day. The soloist was Deborah Miles Johnson, soprano, and the conductor, Peter Nardone. Prayers were said by the Dean. Earlier in the day, the traditional Act of Remembrance took place with an address by the Precentor, the Revd Canon Simon Pothen. The concert was arranged by Peter Kendal, church warden in memory of his wife, Margaret.
ACCENT ON YOUTH BAND
The Forest School Big Band entertain at Friday's lunch time concert (Nov 13) at 12.30. The following Friday, the artists are "Exchanging Blows", music with clarinet, saxophone and piano. Refreshments are served after midday prayers at both concerts.

Four top speakers will appear at services in Chelmsford Cathedral to celebrate Advent on the theme," Heaven, Hell, Death and Judgment" - The speaker at the first at 11.15 on Sun, Nov 29th is the Revd Canon Stephen Lake, sub-Dean at St Alban's Abbey.
