CATHEDRAL FOCUS ON OTHER FAITHS

Chelmsford Cathedral will be the focus for other faiths this month with the advent of a series of lectures on how people of different cultures and tradition can focus together and communicate with each other.

The annual Keene* Lectures, open to the public, feature a well known specialist in Other Faiths, Dr Nicholas Adams, acting Director of the Cambridge Inter-faith Project as the speaker. For the first time a visiting speaker he will give all three lectures. Professionally, he is senior lecturer in Theology and Ethics at Edinburgh University.

The organiser, the Revd Canon Andrew Knowles asks, "In a world where war and acts of terrorism are too often inspired by religious motives, how can members of different faiths argue together in public?" Dr Adams brings a "fresh energy to the challenges of our day". The lectures are free and start at 8pm. A retiring collection The dates are Wednesdays in the Cathedral - 11th, 18th and 25th of November.

CATHEDRALS' ECUMENICAL STUDY

Members of the two cathedrals in Essex, Chelmsford and Brentwood RC Cathedral will meet on Sat, Nov 14 in the Chelmsford Chapter House at 2pm to 5pm to study the place of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Christian life. CATHEDRAL LUNCTIME CONCERT Edward Taylor, Assistant organist at Carlisle Cathedral is the recitalist at the Friday lunchtime concert in the Cathedral on Nov 6th at 12.30. Refreshments from 12 noon.

* The Keene lectures are public lectures on subjects of general social and theological interest. They are named after John Henry Keene, a distinguished citizen of Chelmsford, whose widow established a fund in his memory so that the lectures can be free of charge and open to all.
