CATHEDRAL HONOURS ST CEDD

Chelmsford Cathedral celebrated its patronal festival yesterday (Sun 18 Oct) with due honour of the ancient Essex saint, St Cedd who brought the Christian faith to Essex in 654AD at Bradwell-on-Sea where his chapel is still in use as a place of worship.

Eucharists at 9.30 (youth led) and 11.15 were devoted to the saint and there was a procession to St Cedd's chapel at Festal Evensong when the sermon was preached by the Revd Canon Simon Pothen, the precentor. Peter Nardone conducted the choir.

CATHEDRAL USES METHODIST RITE The Cathedral will use the Methodist rite for Holy Communion next Sunday (Oct 25) when the Revd Viv Gasteen, minister of Trinity Methodist Church, Chelmsford is the celebrant and preacher at 9.30. The cathedral is in covenant with her church. The London Cantata Choir sing the service at the 11.15 Choral Eucharist and in the evening, the Revd Beatrice Brandon, Healing Adviser to the Archbishops of Canterbury and York will preach at a Healing and Laying-on of hands service at 6pm.

SUPPORT FOR THE FAR EAST The audience at last Friday's lunchtime concert given by the London NE band of the Salvation Army contributed the sum of £657 towards the DAC relief agencies in the earthquake zone in Indonesia.. The concert this Friday (Oct 23) will be given by the baritone, David Hylands accompanied by Doreen Potter, piano at 12.30. As usual refreshments are served from 12noon. Admission is free: retiring collection.

THEOLOGICAL SOCIETY The speaker at the meeting of Chelmsford Theological Society is Margaret Barker on "Adam's Dominion"at St Cedd's Hall on Wed Oct 28, 8pm.Admission is £3.50.

ESSEX CATHEDRALS' STUDY DAY The Cathedrals of Essex - Chelmsford and Brentwood join together on Sat, Nov 14 for a study day on the Blessed Virgin Mary at 2pm at St Cedd's Hall All welcome.
