HUNDREDS ADMIRE 10,000 FLOWERS
Hundreds of people attended the Festival of Flowers this weekend (Oot 9-12th) At Chelmsford Cathedral when forty flowers clubs participated in "Ode to Joy", a series of displays depicting the stations of the Resurrection. On Friday ( Oct 9 ) a formal dinner was held " among the blooms" with Giles Coode-Adams, President of the Royal Horticultural Society as the speaker. Today (Sunday 11th), a Festival Eucharist was held literarlly among 10,000 blooms with the Dean, the Very Revd Peter Judd as preacher.
The festival was designed by Terri Potter of Galleywood, a mature student at Colchester Institute, with music arranged by the Director of Music, Peter Nardone.
SUPPORT FOR ' QUAKE VICTIMS
The Friday lunch time promenaders will have the opportunity to contribute to the DEC Disaster Appeal for the Far East following the concert on Oct 16 given by the Salvation Army Band of NE London division.. The concert begins at 12.30 following refreshments served at 12 noon. Admission is free with a retiring collection.
NEW DIRECTOR COMMISSIONED
Rob Fox, the new Diocesan Director of Education and members of his team in Essex and E London, was commissioned by the Bishop of Colchester, the Right Revd Christopher Morgan at ceremony at Evensong last Sunday at the Cathedral (Oct 4).
PATRONAL FESTIVAL
The Cathedral's patronal festival in honour of Essex saint, St Cedd will be celebrated next Sunday (Oct 18) with Eucharists at 9.30 and 11.15. The 9.30 will be youth led and the address will be by the Revd Canon Richard More, Director of Ordinands. FOR THE DIARY Chelmsford and Brentwood Cathedrals will hold a special Study Day on the Blessed Virgin Mary on Sat, Nov 14 in the Chapter House at 2pm. Details on 012245 294489.
