MEDIEVAL PLAYS BACK AFTER 450 YEARS

Folk at Chelmsford Cathedral have revived the medieval miracle plays last performed in the reign of Elizabeth 1. The play to be performed, "The Nativity" by Tony Harrison begins with creation and ends with the birth of Christ.

The performances begin this week on Thursday (Oct 1st) with Friday and Saturday evenings at 7.30pm. Some tickets are still available for these evenings and the matinee on Saturday at 2.30pm. Tickets are £15 and £12, students £6 in the £12 seats. Details from the Civic Theatre box office on 01245 606505.

The Cathedral's Canon Precentor, the Revd Simon Pothen has been roped in as Satan and his daughter, Martha plays Eve alongside Michael Minta as Adam. There is audience participation and original music has been composed by retired music teacher, Eric Withams. The producer is Alison Woollard ( 01245 421729). FESTIVAL OF 10,000 BLOOMS

More than 100 exhibitors from 40 flower clubs throughout Essex are busily arranging 10,000 blooms for the Festival of Flowers at Chelmsford Cathedral from Oct 9th to 12th. The design consultant is Terri Potter of Galleywood (available for interview on 01245 356958). Tickets at the door are priced £7 ( conc £6.50) from 10am daily. HARVEST CELEBRATED IN STYLE

The Cathedral celebrated its Harvest Festival yesterday (Sun, Sept 27) with a Church Parade and Parish Eucharist at 9.30 and a Choral Eucharist at 11.15. At the end of the 9.30, a plaque was unveiled by the Dean, the Very Revd Peter Judd marking Chelmsford Eco - cathedral status, the first cathedral in England to be so honoured.
