CATHEDRAL CHALLENGE FOR FLOWER DESIGNER
Ever since childhood, Terri Potter of Galleywood has wanted to do "something" with flowers whether drawing or painting them, pressing them, growing them or arranging them. Now she gets her big opportunity at the invitation of Chelmsford Cathedral to act as design consultant for the "Ode to Joy" Festival of Flowers on October 9-12th.
Mrs Potter will be involved with more than 100 exhibitors from all parts of Essex, dozens of Flower Clubs and 7,000 blooms in presenting the stations of the resurrection in this event.
Opting for a career in science initially, she spent 19 years of her life with an agricultural research company before launching into a City and Guild course in flowers. Now she is working on a BA honours degree in Fine Art at Colchester Institute.
She has been involved for many years as a flower arranger and specialist - now comes the chance to work alongside many enthusiasts in creating a big festival. Her "partners" are Jean Glading, chair of the Cathedral Flower Guild and Cynthia Styles, the festival's co-ordinator plus hundreds of flower ladies!
Says Terri : "Flowers have been a universal symbol of expression since ancient times - they often portray what we find difficult to explain in word. Admired for their beauty, and deeply appreciated during their brief moments of glory, they remain in our memories bringing joy to all. "
They are a reminder of our brief transient life and the resurrection of new life." More information on 01245 294489 (for bookings). Terri Potter on 01245 356958.
MIRACLE PLAYS TAKE SHAPE

The plays have not been performed for 450 years, though the script for 2009 by Tony Harrison brings in new features and intriguing new costumes and props. Music is by Chelmsfordian, Eric Withams. The producer is Alison Woolard and tickets at £12 and £10 are now available at the Civic Theatre Box Office on 01245 606505. A leaflet giving times of performances is available from the porch of the cathedral.
