NEW CONCERTS LAUNCHED AT CATHEDRAL

Tom Wilkinson, the versatile former Assistant Director of Music at Chelmsford Cathedral returns to launch the new series of autumn concerts at the Cathedral on Friiday (Sept 4 at 12.30. Refreshmnets will be served as usual from 12 noon. Admission is free : retiring collection. Tom is now the Director of Chapel Music at the University of St Andrews after a year at Chelmsford.

TRIBUTE TO PERCY GRAINGER

Tom will also feature in a special concert in tribute to the Australian composer, Percy Grainger in aid of the Cathedral Choral Foundation on Tues, Sept 15 when he joins Peter Nardone. Director of Music on two pianos with Kit Hesketh-Harvey as narrator. The concert is 7.30pm. Tickets at £10 on 01245 294486 or at the south door.

VESTMENTS TO BE DEDICATED

This Sunday ( Sept 6) new vestments will be dedicated at the 11.15 Eucharist in memory of Chelmsfordian Iris Woolford, the doyenne of the congregation for so many years. The address will be given by the Vice-dean, Revd Canon Walter King..

SATURDAY SUMMER RECITALS

Dozens of people attended the five concerts on Saturday evenings when a series of talented organists gave recitals including James Norrey, the organ scholar at the Cathedral, who arranged the concerts. Proceeds were in aid of the Choral Foundation.

CHAPTER HOUSE EVENTS

An austerity lunch will be held in the Chapter House on Thursday (Sept 3) at 12 noon. All welcome. On Saturday (Sept 5) the monthly Coffee Morning has the advantage of a new kitchen. Coffee and scones will be served from 10am to 12 noon.

MYSTERY PLAYS

Tickets at £10 and £12 are now available for the Mystery Plays on Oct 1-3rd in the Cathedral at 7.30pm, from the Civic Theatre Box Office - 01245 606505. More information on the Festival of Flowers (Oct 9-12th) is available at the south porch.
