CATHEDRAL GOES INTO PICNIC MODE

The community of Chelmsford Cathedral will give themselves a party on Sunday (June 28) to celebrate St Peter's Day as their patronal festival. The party begins with a combined Choral Eucharist and parade involving the uniformed organisations and all three choirs at 10.30am followed by a picnic and afternoon tea party and games in the gardens of Guy Harlings, the diocesan offices at 53 New Street.

The Dean, the Very Revd Peter Judd says "The Patronal Festival gives us a chance to come together in celebration and enjoy each other's company. I hope you can come and share the day and enjoy being together for worship, picnicking together and having fun in the garden."Already, names are being collated for a mini cricket match!

In the evening Festal Evensong sung by the Cathedral Choir conducted by Peter Nardone, Director of Music, will welcome the Archdeacon of Southend, the Venerable David Lowman, as guest preacher,6pm. All are welcome.

CATHEDRAL HONOURS ARMED FORCES

The Cathedral will include special prayers at services on Armed Forces Day at services on Saturday (June 27) at the service of Holy Communion at 8.15am and at Choral Evensong at 5.15pm.As this is the first Armed Forces Day prayers will be said for the Colchester Garrison, for those serving in the middle east and for war veterans.

CATHEDRAL CONCERTS " FINALE"

The final concert of the Cathedral "summer term" will be held on Friday (June 26, when the artists at the Cathedral lunch time concert will be Helen Woods, soprano, David Wright, trumpet and Dr Simon Schultz, the Chelmsford Salvation Army bandmaster at the piano, 12.30. As usual refreshments will be served from 12 noon. As usual, a retiring collection for local charities will be held as people leave.

CATHEDRAL LECTURE ON DARWIN

A summer special lecture, "Did Darwin kill God" is to be held by the Chelmsford Theological Society in the cathedral on Wed, July 1st. The speaker is Nick Spencer, Director of THEOS, the public theology think tank. 8pm. Pay at the door, £3.50

Miracle plays in the Cathedral, Oct 1-3, the Box Office on 01245 606505 opens at the Civic Theatre on July 6. The Cathedral Flower Festival, "Ode to Joy,"is to be held from Oct 9th-12 and details are now available in a leaflet from the south porch as well as booking forms for the miracle plays.
