CATHEDRAL PLEA FOR VOLUNTEERS

The authorities at Chelmsford Cathedral are looking for volunteers with an interest in the theatre and / or knowledge of flowers for two major events to be staged in the cathedral in the autumn.

The miracle plays ( from Oct 1-3) which have not been performed since the sixteenth century and the massive Flower Festival, "Ode to Joy" from Oct 9-12th. Informarioin about both events is now available from the cathedral office on 01245 294489 and there is a leaflet for would be volunteers at the south porch. It is important that stewards are appointed to cover both events. Programme sellers are wanted, too. The box office opens on July 6 for the Miracle Play.

CATHEDRAL "BEGINNING" FOR NEW MAYOR

The new Mayor of Chelmsford, Cllr Tony Sach of Writtle attended the civic service on Sunday (June 14) at the Cathedral with councillors and representatives from community life. A guard of honour from youth organisations greeted the Mayor at the West door with the Dean, the Very Revd Peter Judd. An address was given by the Revd Michael Jones, Vicar of Writtle (Mayor's chaplain).

Peter Nardone, Director of Music at the Cathedral conducted the choir. Prayers were said for the newly elected councillors for the borough and for the Euro MEPs.

CATHEDRAL LUNCH TIME CONCERT

The concert on Friday (June 19) at the Cathedral will be given by Kerry Bassil, flute and Roger Montgomery, guitar, at 12.30. Refreshments as usual from 12 noon. Admission is free.

CATHEDRAL FAREWELL TO THE BISHOP

The farewell service to the Bishop of Chelmsford, the Right Revd John Gladwin, who is retiring will be held at the Cathedral on Sat, July 18. at 4pm. Information re-tickets is available from the Cathedral Office (Jenny Cass) on 01245 294492.
