CATHEDRAL "RETIRED" YOUNG PEOPLE PLAN GET TOGETHER
Forty members of the Young People's League at Chelmsford Cathedral will meet together for the first time at a reunion on Sunday, June 7 though their YPL Club closed forty years ago!
Thanks to Joyce and Doug Britton of Chelmsford they will assemble in St Cedd's Hall and after unveiling the old YPL banner to be laid up on the wall of the Chapter House, will enjoy a tea party and chat at 4pm about how young people were involved in Cathedral community life all those years ago.
A number of those present met their spouses at the club over the years. Those wishing to join them for tea should advise Rosy Baxter at the Cathedral Office on 01245 294489. Donations welcomed. ( Press photographer welcome)
TRIBUTE TO HENRY PURCELL
Tickets are still available for the special concert on Friday, June 5th to commemorate the 350th birth of England's greatest composer, Henry Purcell. International artists include James Bowman, county-tenor, Timothy Travers-Brown of the Chapel Choir,Windsor, who lives at Galleywood, and Crispin Steele-Perkins the trumpeter. Peter Nardone, Director of Music, conducts a baroque ensemble and the Chelmsford Cathedral Choir. Tickets £16-£20 from the Cathedral box office on 01245 294486. Proceeds go to the Chelmsford Cathedral Choral Foundation. Concert is 7.30pm.
CATHOLIC VESPERS AT THE CATHEDRAL
The Choir of Brentwood Roman Catholic Cathedral will sing Vespers at Chelmsford Cathedral on Sunday (May 31) to mark the feast of Pentecost. The preacher is the Bishop of Brentwood, the Right Revd Thomas McMahon. All are welcome: 6pm. Other Chelmsford Cathedral services for Pentecost are at 8am (Holy Communion) ; 9.30am (All- age Eucharist) and 11.15 (Sung Eucharist with the Kirbye Consort ).
POLICE CHOIR IN CONCERT
The Essex Police Choir sing at the Friday lunch time concert this week at the Cathedral on Fri, May 29 at 12.30. Refreshments from 12 noon.
