SEARCH FOR FORMER CHORISTERS
Hundreds of men and boys and some girls have sung in the Cathedral Choir at Chelmsford over many years and so the musicians of today led by Peter Nardone, Director of Music, have decided to form an Old Choristers' Association. The plan is to launch the association with a meeting at 2.30pm on Sun, May 10, in the Learning Centre followed by Choral Evensong at 4pm.A formal dinner will be held at 6.15pm..
Those eligible should contact the Music department at the cathedral on 01245 294498.Former directors of music at the cathedral hope to be present and there will be new music for the canticles composed by Philip Moore, formerly of York Minster.
VOLUNTARY CHOIRS MEET FOR REUNION
More than ninety choristers from seven voluntary choirs will hold a festival next weekend at the Cathedral when the sub-dean of York Minster, the Revd Glyn Webster will give the address at Evensong for massed choirs to be held on Saturday (May 2) in the Cathedral at 5.15pm. There will be a dinner in the Shire Hall in the evening when the speaker will be the Bishop of Chelmsford, the Right Revd John Gladwin. On Sunday they will sing at the Choral Eucharist at 10.30am.
Voluntary adult choirs, who have their own association, sing when the cathedral choirs are on holiday or singing elsewhere.
MINI MUSIC FESTIVAL
Chelmsford's own orchestra, the Chelmsford Sinfonietta present a concert on Sat, May 9 at which their founder, Timothy Carey will play the Beethoven third piano concerto. On the previous evening - all concerts in the Cathedral at 7.30pm - "Cirrus", a string sextet will play on Thursday May 7, and The O Duo, a percussion duo entertain on the Friday. LUNCH TIME RECITAL
The Cathedral's talented organ scholar, James Norrey, gives a recital on Friday (May 1st) at 12.30. Refreshments from 12 noon. All welcome. Admission free.
CASH FOR OVERSEAS RELIEF
The Cathedral branch of the Mothers'Union raised £300 at a coffee morning on Saturday (April 25) in aid of Overseas relief work and the Cathedral Africa project.
