CATHEDRAL CHOIRS DESCEND ON CHELMSFORD

Voluntary Cathedral choirs from seven cathedrals will meet at Chelmsford Cathedral next month for a weekend music festival. The choirs take over from the professional cathedral choirs at holiday times. More than 90 singers are involved. The choirs will sing Evensong on Saturday, May 2 at 5.15pm, followed by a formal dinner at 7.30pm in the Shire Hall, Chelmsford when the speaker is the Bishop of Chelmsford, the Right Revd John Gladwin. The Deputy Mayor of Chelmsford, Alan Arnot, a member of the Chelmsford Choir, will attend with his wife.

On the Sunday, the choirs sing at a Choral Eucharist at 10.30am when the address will be given by the sub-Dean of York Minster, the Revd Canon Glyn Webster.

The 35-strong Voluntary Choir in Chelmsford was formed by a former Assistant Director of Music, Edward Wellman in 2001 joining the National Association of Voluntary Choirs founded in 1996. Each year the choirs meet together to sing and enjoy fellowship together. The festival services are open to the public.

CATHEDRAL TO HOST MINI FESTIVAL

The Chelmsford pianist, Timothy Carey presents his own three-day festival with the Chelmsford Sinfonietta at the Cathedral from Thurs, May 7-9th with three special concerts at 7.30pm. CATHEDRAL TRIBUTE TO MARCONI

A remodelled plaque to Marconi will be dedicated at Chelmsford Cathedral on Sunday, April 26 by Lady Telford, widow of the former Life President of The Marconi Company, Sir Robert Telford, at Evensong (6pm). Many relatives of victims of the 17 people killed in an air raid on 9 May, 1941 on the New Street factory will attend as well as former Marconi employees. All welcome. MOTHERS' UNION SUPPORT RELEIF WORK

The Cathedral branch of the Mothers' Union will hold a Coffee Morning in the Chapter House of the Cathedral on Sat, April 25 from 10am to 12 noon in aid of Overseas relief work and the Cathedral 's Africa Project. Fairtrade coffee and scones, cakes and a bring and buy stalls. All welcome.

CATHEDRAL ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Cathedral will be held in the Cathedral on Wed, April 29 at 7.45pm. The Dean, the Very Revd Peter Judd will preside.

FRIDAY LUNCH TIME CONCERTS

The Friday lunch time concert this week will be given by pupils of the The Plume School, Maldon at 12.30. The following Friday (May 1st), the Cathedral's organ scholar, James Norrey will given a recital. Both concerts at 12.30. Refreshments from 12 noon.
