NUNS TAKE OVER CATHEDRAL

A group of Roman Catholic nuns presented a display of paintings to share with worshippers at Chelmsford Cathedral last week for two days (Wed/Thurs) as a visual contribution to the season of Lent, led by Sister Teresa, their prioress.

Welcomed by the Revd Canon Andrew Knowles, the diocesan theologian, they presented talks using a power point presentation to enable folk to appreciate the paintings of Christ's suffering and to contemplate the meaning of Lent and Easter.

The paintings are the work of one of their members, Sister Mary Stephen of the Canonesses of the Holy Sepulchre - a Roman Catholic mission house now based in Colchester. Previously they were engaged in teaching and mission work at the New Hall Roman Catholic Pastoral Centre of Brentwood diocese at Boreham.

The five sisters met dozens of visitors at their exhibition and explained the paintings depicting the traditional, "Stations of the Cross" as part of the Cathedral's Lenten approach. They move their exhibition of 30 paintings to Brentwood Roman Catholic Cathedral on March 31/April 1st. In addition, they staged an information point and bookstall.
