LUNCHTIME CONCERT GOERS SUPPORT CHARITIES

More than £3,780 was contributed by Cathedral concert-goers last year at the popular Friday concerts, Mrs Eileen Hance, the treasurer announced on Friday (Feb 6) when copies of the statement of accounts were circulated after the weekly concert - on Friday by Robert Smith, organist of St Michael's Cornhill, London.

The total donations of £8,610 exceeded those of 2006 by £1,080 and the total attendances reached 8,856 (7,154) for the year's concerts held on Fridays in term time. Charities to benefit this year included the Cathedral Choral Foundation (£2,000); Age Concern (£300); a school in Pakistan (£300) and £530 to the Mayor of Chelmsford's charity. The total income was £15,300 including refreshments.

The organiser of the concerts, Alan Woods said he was delighted that such a broad range of music was offered to the regular concert-goers from jazz to baroque.

The concert this Friday (Feb 13) will be given by the Cathedral School, Victoria Road, Chelmsford at 12.30 with refreshments served at 12 noon. All welcome.

200 RENEW WEDDING VOWS

A special service to celebrate National Marriage Week was held at the Cathedral yesterday (Feb 8) when 200 people of all ages were involved in the renewal of wedding vows led by the Dean, the Very Revd Peter Judd. A reception was held in the north transept afterwards arranged by members of the Cathedral Mothers' Union.

MUSIC BY CANDLELIGHT

Baroque music by candlelight in the Cathedral takes place for the first time on Sat, Feb 21 at 7.30pm. Tickets from the Music Department are £12. Details on 01245 294486 or e-mail music@chelmsfordcathedral.org.uk. The concert has been arranged by the new Assistant Director of Music, Tom Wilkinson.

RETIREMENT SEMINAR
