FESTIVAL PARADE AT CATHEDRAL
Chelmsford Cathedral was packed on Sunday (Feb 1) for the Presentation of Christ in the Temple (Candlemas) when 14 young children were admitted to Holy Communion and a parade of uniformed organisations took place.
The service - youth led - was designed to cater for young families and people of all ages and was conducted by the Vice-dean, the Revd Canon Walter King. An address was given by the Dean, the Very Revd Peter Judd who later admitted the children to their first Communion.
EDUCATION SUNDAY IN FOCUS
Next Sunday (Feb 8) the Cathedral devotes time to Education when all aspects of the topic will be covered including work with visiting school groups in the Education learning centre; work with the Choir and schools in the diocese of Chelmsford. The sermon at the 9.30 Eucharist will be given by Libby Woodward of the Schools and Youth Ministries (SYM) in Chelmsford. The Dean preaches at the 11.15 service of Choral Mattins and the Revd Canon Andrew Knowles, theologian at Evensong, 6pm..
CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE IN FOCUS
A Thanksgiving service to celebrate National Marriage Week arranged by the Mothers' Union also takes place at the Cathedral next Sunday (Feb 8) when married couples and families will be welcome at 3pm, tea in the North Transept follows. FOCUS ON SCHOOL CHOIR
The lunchtime concert on Friday (Feb 13) features the choir of the Cathedral School, Victoria Road at 12.30. Refreshments are served from 12 noon after Midday Prayers. This week the concert is given by the organist, Robert Smith of St Michael's Cornhill.
FOCUS ON RETIREMENT
A seminar for the retired or those coming up to retirement age is to be held on Sat, Feb 21 in St Cedd's Hall at 1pm - 3.30pm (£5). Bookings on 01245 263477. The guest speaker is Roger Shilling, Chairman of Chelmsford North Deanery Synod.
