PROJECTS COMPLETED AT CATHEDRAL
The Cathedral Council have been told that funds raised by the congregation so far - a total of £168,000 - have now completed the cost of four projects making the Cathedral fabric secure for the immediate future.
Reporting to the Council last month, the Dean, the Very Revd Peter Judd, said that as a result the cathedral authorities have now improved the drainage; re-pointed at the west end; maintained and restored the bells and installed a new sound control for them
The final project - the Chapter House kitchen is to be tackled this summer. "A Kitchen Committee" is looking at the proposals and intends to consult widely to ensure the needs of all the users are met. The project is still to be fully costed but he believes that the Council now have sufficient funds to cover this item.
In a statement to the Council, the Treasurer Mrs Caroline Robinson said that active fund raising will not continue but the Major Projects Fund remains open to receive specific donations and/or legacies.
"We want to improve our energy efficiency and several projects have been identified in the Chapter House. When funds allow, we will make these improvements to the heating and lighting."
She also indicated that the cathedral boilers will need replacing in the not too distant future and "we want to install a more effective control system" as cathedral eco-projects.
