BISHOP'S WIFE TO LAUNCH TALKS FOR LENT
Mrs Lydia Gladwin, professionally a senior social worker and wife of the Bishop of Chelmsford is to open a series of talks for Lent at Chelmsford Cathedral next month. Speakers also include a circuit judge, the chief coroner and a college principal. The talks on Thursdays at 12.30 at the Cathedral are entitled, " Professions of Faith. In addition, a series of five Lent suppers and talks will be arranged on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for people to discuss the topics raised and other issues.
The observances for Lent have been arranged by the Revd Canon Andrew Knowles who states that the five-session series is based "on values and life priorities in the light of the Bible's teaching about the Sabbath." The suppers will be staged at the Ascension Parish Hall, Maltese Rd, Chelmsford (Tuesdays) and on Wednesdays at the Chapter House. Suppers begin at 8pm. A contribution of £3 per head is suggested.
Mrs Gladwin's talk, "Father, forgive " will be held on Thursday 9 March, 12.30 and the other speaker's dates are His Hon Judge David Turner,QC on Thurs, 16 March; Steve Packham, Chief Executive of Chelmsford Borough Council speaks on March 23; Professor Mike Alder, of Writtle Agricultural College on March 30 and the Chief Coroner for Essex, Mrs Caroline Beasley-Murray on Thurs 6 April. FREE CATHEDRAL CONCERTS IN FOCUS
This week the pupils of the Cathedral School entertain with music, dance and drama on Friday (Feb 10) at 12.30 at the popular Lunch-time concerts with a percussionist, James Hughes in a programme entitled, "Bang in Tune," on Friday Feb 17. Concerts begin at 12.30 with refreshments served as usual from 12 Noon. Admission free. The Cathedral Consort (Girl's Choir) and the Gentlemen of the Cathedral Choir present a concert of choral music by Bax, Byrd, Gibbons and Bruckner on Friday this week (Feb 10) in the Cathedral at 7.30pm. Admission is free with a retiring collection in aid of the Consort's forthcoming tour of East Yorkshire. All welcome.
